Cacao Ceremonies in Frome, Somerset - come home to your heart
Slow down, drop in and hear what your heart already knows. Cacao ceremonies in Frome and in your own home.
Ceremonial cacao has been used for thousands of years to open the heart and quieten the mind. In ceremony, it becomes a doorway: a gentle, grounded way to step out of the noise of everyday life and back into yourself.
I hold cacao ceremonies as a monthly women’s sister circle in Frome and as private ceremonies in your own home, wherever you are. Cacao is at the heart of my retreats, and I’m also invited to hold ceremony on other facilitators’ retreats.
What is ceremonial cacao?
Ceremonial cacao is whole cacao bean, gently fermented, dried, lightly roasted and ground into a paste. Nothing is taken out, and nothing is added. It’s very different from cocoa powder or hot chocolate, where the cacao butter, or fat, is stripped away and sugar and milk are added.
Cacao contains theobromine, a gentle stimulant that gives a warm, steady lift without the jitters of coffee. It is also rich in magnesium. Many women describe the feeling as a softening: the body relaxes, the mind slows, and the heart feels more open.
In the traditions of Central and South America, cacao has long been honoured as a plant medicine and a teacher. I work with her in that spirit, with respect for where she comes from.
How cacao brought me home
I was never a chocolate person. As a child, my Easter eggs would sit untouched long after my siblings had devoured theirs. Then, on a trip to Ecuador, I walked through a cacao plantation and tasted chocolate made from raw cacao, straight from the bean. It was the best I had ever tasted, and something stirred.
My first cacao ceremony came later, at home, with a dear friend and mentor who was living in Bali at the time. She gave me pure cacao, no sugar, no milk. With the first sip, everything in me went still. I had a deep, quiet knowing that I had come home to myself.
At that point I had spent years in corporate life, always doing, always pushing. Cacao drew me back into a slower, more feminine, cyclical way of being. She was the catalyst for my move to Somerset and for the work I do now. I have worked with cacao since 2019, and holding ceremony for other women is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

What happens in a cacao ceremony?
We arrive, settle and ground ourselves in the space.
You set an intention, something you’d like to understand, release or call in.
We open with a cacao prayer and prepare and drink the cacao slowly, mindfully and with gratitude.
We might do some gentle somatic movement and I guide you through a meditation to take you deeper into your own inner knowing.
There is space to journal, share if you wish, or simply sit with what arises.
We close the circle together and bring you gently back.
You don’t need any experience. You only need to be willing to slow down.

Questions you might have
Is ceremonial cacao safe for me?
For most people, yes. It is a food. However, please speak to your GP before attending if you:
have a heart condition or high blood pressure
take antidepressants, especially SSRIs or MAOIs
are pregnant or breastfeeding
If you’re unsure, let me know when you book and we can chat beforehand and I can offer a smaller dose.
Will it make me feel high?
No. Cacao is not psychedelic. Most women feel warm, relaxed, open and clear.
Is it the same as hot chocolate?
No. Ceremonial cacao is whole bean with nothing removed and nothing added. It tastes rich and earthy, and slightly bitter.
Do I need to be spiritual or have done this before?
No. Come as you are. Everything is explained as we go.
Can I come to a sister circle on my own?
Yes. Most women do.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes, a journal, and a light stomach. Eat lightly beforehand.
What cacao do you use?
I’ve tried many cacao brands and continue to come back to the one I originally tasted - Forever Cacao from Peru. They are Europe’s longest supplier of the finest Ceremonial Grade Criollo Cacao which has been grown, harvested, fermented and dried by Ashaninka families. Directly sourced from ancient Cacao gardens in the Rio Ene region of Peru.
