Sunday Morning - The Attention Experiment: Scroll Loop Notice Choose with Katie Brockhurst
With so much talk of mobile phones and social media bans going into the new school term, young people are asking for the adults in their lives to make an effort to understand how they live online.
And if you'd like them to spend less time lost in the scroll, without having to nag, that's what this session is designed for.
Less nagging and more noticing.
The Attention Experiment is a simple practice for noticing when you've slipped into a scroll loop, and choosing your way out. Based in metacognition and self-regulation, this evidence-based practice is centred around four words: Scroll Loop Notice Choose. I'll teach it to you, and explain why it's so simple and powerful. We'll practise it together, but this is a conversation that carries out of the room and into daily life with ease.
We'll also play a game of Scroll Loop Bingo, a noticing game, to learn different doorways into the scroll. Boredom, worry, checking, wanting to feel connected. There's always a reason. And we'll discuss AI chatbots, and learn how prompt loops are designed to keep us talking the same way social media apps are designed to keep us scrolling.
We'll chat about the digital age in ways many families haven't found the words for yet.
Fair warning to the grown-ups: they will be better at this than you.
