Thursday Morning – Identity in Motherhood  with Rowena

Thursday Morning – Identity in Motherhood  with Rowena

Who are you now you're also a mother?

How do you relate to yourself? What identities are you committing too? And what does being a good mother actually mean to you?

Becoming a mother is a huge identity shift, but it doesn't stop at birthing your baby, your identity morphs and changes continually as your child grows. The moment you feel like you’ve found your feet, they have a developmental leap and you’re on your butt again.

Feeling lost, confused and not yourself can become regular companions to the many other hats you're now wearing... cleaner, chef, entertainer, teacher... and while one week you might be nailing it, others you probably feel like you’ve disappeared amongst the noise of everyone else’s needs.

In western culture we don't have the rites of passage or important rituals that help us make sense of our continually shifting sense of self, nor the spaces to connect with other mothers and really reflect on and share our personal journeys, it’s no wonder women question if they’re the only ones who feel this way.

In this 90 minute workshop we will be holding a deep conversation led by the groups experiences of motherhood and matrescence. This is where you can bring all of who you are right now, whether a confused hot mess, contented but curious, or anywhere in between, and together we will make space for what you're holding and who you're being called to be.

We will explore the many identities we feel in motherhood and discuss where they may originate from, whether they ‘fit’ or feel like something we have to squeeze ourselves into and whether they ultimately bring more joy to our lives as women, as well as mothers.

We are moving beyond the idea that we are ever ‘bouncing back’ to someone we once were and instead allowing space to grieve and honour her, while getting excited about who you are and who you get to become.

The energy we bring to our lives and homes is foundational for our families, it’s in these conversations that we can truly align with the things that we value and bring more of our truest selves to the table so that everyone in our family benefits and we get to cherish these precious years of mothering.

This will be an intimate and curious space that welcomes the huge variety of emotion and experience that motherhood brings.

All mothers (and babes in arms) are welcome, wherever you are on your parenting journey.

Biography:

Hi, I’m Rowena.

As a mother of three I have taken on many identities... home birther, freebirther, trainee doula, facilitator, researcher, mentor and always student.

I truly believe that all mothers contain the unique knowledge needed for their families to thrive, and yet I've experienced personally and through my work how hard it can be to access that knowing. The systems we are raising our children in often send us spiralling and so it is my mission to support mothers back to their own rooted sense of self, to taking the greatest delight in life and to honouring their motherhood in the ways most delicious to them. I believe this is how we change the world from the ground up. It’s time we owned our place and value as mothers, trusted ourselves to be the leaders of our homes, and raised our children in the energy of our most fulfilled selves.

I have a particular interest in sibling dynamics and the energetics of who we are being in motherhood, and find these lenses often unlock so much about us and how we relate to the world.
